Udzungwa Mountains National Park is only ten Kilometers south-west of Mikumi National Park, and is connected to Ifakara by an all weather murram road from Kidatu. The park has a total area of approximately 1,990 sq.km, covering Mwanihana Forest Reserve and West Kilombero Scarp Forest Reserve.

Udzungwa forests form an important plant genetic pool in that many of the plant species which have been identified there cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The park has spectacular mountain scenery, rivers and waterfalls. It supports a large number of large mammals including, elephants, hippos, lions, sable antelopes, elands, waterbucks and busbucks.

But the most spectacular sight is the presence of two endemic species of primates, these are: The Iringa red colobus monkey and the Sanje mangabey. Other primates are vervet and Sykes monkeys, baboons and black and white cobobus monkeys.
